Measuring Innovation
Innovation can be measured by the Kardeshev Scale on two dimensions: (The Standard Kardeshev Model and The Expansive Kardeshev Model)
The numeric-
The baseline definition for the K-scale: energy harnessing and efficiency for existing systems. Increasing efficiency through numeric/ industrial means. Basically how effective X innovation is at making us more efficient to the ends of being multiplanetary/multistellar.
The second dimension, the expansive- consists in human culture, cognition, and inquisition. This dimension of consciousness is most unexplored in humanity at the moment. This is a change in how humanity operates, new fundamental belief systems, etc. An example would be the model or framing of ‘striving’ post-capitalism, which ASTRAL aims to build and no one yet has experienced the shape of yet.
Some innovations may lie as a medium to the intersection of these two things, such as anti gravity programmable matter or arguably the iphone (although in effect the phone advances neither of these things).
As AI becomes the object by which we outsource things, we’ll have more time and deliberation to explore these things. Invariably this will be extremely relevant to the future of work and civilization as we know it.
